RUG'SOCIETY β When Art Descends to the Floor
Centuries of craft. A thoroughly contemporary point of view.

Somewhere along the way, somebody decided a rug should behave.
Stay quiet. Match the sofa. Complete the room.
No one counted on Rug’Society.
Born in Portugal, with centuries of craft behind it and absolutely no intention of behaving accordingly, Rug’Society takes one of the oldest objects in our homes and gives it a thoroughly contemporary point of view.
Ancient symbols wander into contemporary rooms.
Snakes cross paths with geometry. Cranes take flight across colour.
Nature gets exaggerated, fragmented, reimagined.
Techniques passed from hand to hand for generations suddenly find themselves doing things their makers could never have predicted.
And then there is texture.
Wool rises, silk catches the light, surfaces shift from flat to sculptural. What begins as an image becomes something almost architectural β colour given depth, pattern given dimension, the past quite literally raised into the present.
Hand-tufting becomes a painter’s gesture.
Tradition becomes possibility.
And the floor?
It stops being background.
The rugs become art you are allowed to walk on.

Where Every Step Meets Art RUG'SOCIETY -
TAKE A WALK ON THE ART
We chose the ones that turned looking down into a compliment.
Some art asks you to step back to see it.
Rug’Society invites you to step on it.
…preferably barefoot. π
